Christian Clark has served as Artistic Director and Conductor of Central Oregon Mastersingers since 2017. Under his leadership, the ensemble has expanded its artistic programming, community outreach, and collaborations while continuing its commitment to presenting exceptional choral music throughout Central Oregon.
During COM’s 20th Anniversary Season, Christian led collaborations with acclaimed artists Moira Smiley and Chanticleer, including free workshops and educational opportunities for area high school singers.
For the 2026-2027 season, Christian will expand COM’s artistic reach through the founding of The Understory, a new chamber ensemble of Central Oregon Mastersingers created to explore more intimate, flexible, and adventurous choral repertoire.
His work with the Mastersingers has included invited performances at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall, St. Peter’s Basilica in Vatican City, and Cadogan Hall in London, as well as collaborations with prominent local and regional arts organizations.
Christian holds a Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance and a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from Sam Houston State University in Texas. As a graduate teaching assistant, he served as associate music director and conductor of Sam Houston Opera and assistant conductor of the SHSU Concert Choir and Chorale. His principal conducting teacher and mentor was Allen Hightower, and he has studied with distinguished conductors including Paul Salamunovich and Joseph Flummerfelt.
Before moving to Bend in 2011, Christian taught award-winning junior high and high school choirs in the Houston area and served as Assistant Director of the Houston Masterworks Chorus. As an accomplished tenor, his experience spans concert, oratorio, and operatic masterworks by Bach, Beethoven, Bernstein, Haydn, Mendelssohn, Mozart, and others. Favorite operatic roles include Ferrando (Così fan tutte), Nemorino (L’elisir d’amore), and Tamino (Die Zauberflöte).
In addition to his work with Central Oregon Mastersingers, Christian serves as Director of Music at Trinity Episcopal Church in Bend. He has served on the faculty at Central Oregon Community College and remains active throughout the region as a conductor, singer, educator, and arts administrator.
Christian lives in Bend with his wife, Audrey, and their three children.
